One thing I wanted to add but didn't because of length--the Nordic commitment to accessibility to the outdoors. I grew up hunting and fishing, and a lot of northern Europeans do as well. In Sweden especially, it is remarkably easy to camp for free--there are free shelters with fire pits, many with fresh water, and a lot with at least a dry toilet. You do not need a license to fish in the sea at all, and the same is true for all five of Sweden's so-called "great lakes." For every other body of water, the iFiske app lets you buy licenses in minutes, so you can literally fish anywhere you are at that moment. We stayed on Lake Mien which, again, like many other lakes here, even lets you rent a boat and motor through the app. They are religious about nature, and about letting people enjoy it to their hearts' content. It's great.

I hope that their success in the world cup brings more awareness to the values and lifestyle you+others have first hand experienced. I remember when COVID occured and a journal article came out about how sauna countries had better... immune response?.. to the virus. (don't quote me on that I'm no biologist), more of a particle guy. It would be great for these values to scale into the US. great article. thank you.
